It’s not happening on (anglophone) Twitter. It’s happening in China on blogs..

I had seen the general infographic before, but I didn’t know you could actually go and visit this site? Great news, check it out :

It’s the Social Web involvement. It looks at the percentage of a country’s population that is :
– uploading photos
– uploading videos
– managing a social network profile
– have written their own blog
– microblog
– or even have access

In any case, I was surprised to find out :

– only 40% of Australians have profiles on social networks (only 5% microblog – meaning Twitter and company)
– only 10% of Canadians have written their own blogs
– India has the most photo uploaders both in terms of percentage and sheer mass (63% of their population is 22.4 million people), though China is not far behind (60% = 117.6 million)
– China, however, has the most bloggers with 46% that has had a blog (89.7 million people)
– only 43% of Americans have social profiles ? I would have thought it would be far more..

  1. Great site, I’d like to compare it with volume and frequency, or maybe even percentage of activity in each language, I hear often English is a large percentage of the internet, maybe not true.

some lovely analysis of Twitter on the globalwebindex’s blog too.
